Haydn The Seasons

The new Edward Johnson Music Library provided not only a unified space for the entire music collection, but also spaces for specialized collections, including the rare book collection. Harvey Olnick, the faculty’s first musicology professor, began setting aside rare items in his office to protect them from damage and this gradually formed the music library’s rare books collection. He said in 1986: (Olnick oral history) “And when we were moving to the new building, I still remember… a book that was in the wastepaper can. And do you know what it contained? … It was the first edition of one volume of Haydn’s The Seasons.”
